Baby Cigars

Do you remember those gum baby cigars that say "It's A Boy" or "It's A Girl"? My mother in law is looking for some of those to give out when my baby is born. I don't mean to be rude, but aren't those just a little bit tacky? I don't want to hurt her feelings but i don't like that idea. What do you think?

Modern Baby Shower Ideas Reply:

Yes there was a time when baby shower cigars were all the rave and its was almost taboo not to hand them out whenever a baby was born. Alas, since people came to realize that tobacco and pregnancy don’t quite go hand in hand it hasn’t been on too many people’s list of things to do for a baby shower party.

There are several circles, however, where it is still a thriving custom so if you are from one of these areas or someone in your family is from one of these areas, then you should not only allow it, but embrace it.

After all, these cigars are usually only used for keepsakes and in the event that you have an old uncle who lights up, then politely ask him or have one of your more vocal aunts kindly tell him to take it outside because you won’t want to be inhaling that stuff in your condition.

If you still have a problem with it, then ask whoever wants to pass them out to save it until the baby is born which is when those cigars are actually traditionally passed out. That should keep you out of hot water while allowing the cigar aficionados happy.
